Why I love Tease Publishing

I have been a Tease Publishing author since the beginning. Why do I stay? Because I love it. Hmm, that may not be clear enough for most people who are not part of the Tease family.

Tease is a place that let's me be the author I want to be, the author I aspire to be and the one I can be. In 2007, when I came to Tease I was a new and budding erotica author. I was trying to get a firm stance on my plot of land in the erotic romance writing world. I wasn't sure of much, but that I wanted to write erotica.

Tease allowed me to stretch my wings, try a few new things, some things worked for me... some things worked even better. There was no pressure. If I wanted to write one book a year because my family responsibilities and the military didn't give me space to write more, I could. If I thought I wanted to learn about a new genre (BDSM) and incorporate it, I could.

The editing team was great and friendly. I've been to pub houses where I feel like crap after I get my edits back and wonder if I should still be a writer. However, that was never the case at Tease. Even when being corrected, guided and instructed it was done with the kindness and intent to help me grow. Tease allowed me to build and establish my readership.

Hell, what other publisher do you know that when you have done something well they post it on the home page? That means an award, a good review for one of your books or even that you did an interview somewhere. Now that is concern for their authors, they post the accomplishments of their authors for the world to see. Hell, yeah!!

Oh, yeah, I love this place. I have not even touched the cover artist department. I mean, damn, have you seen what they can do? Just look to my left and my right (of the posting that is..LOL). Someone that listens to the author and produces the same vision and MORE.

Finally, author to author, I love Tease. I can be at ANY conference and see a fellow Tease author and there is a huge smile, hug and generally someone that wants to know how I'm doing. This is the same response for past or present Tease authors. The blood of the Tease family never stops beating. At Tease you want to see your fellow authors branch out and do well. That is the beauty of being at a small house that has no desire to be bigger than your 20 person contact list.

Allow Me to Introduce You to…

I've teased and hinted, but never told you that Marsyas is the latest Ancient Greek mythological figure to be treated to a fresh ending, actually fresh start would be more apt, but then again, that is what the Mythological Messes Redux series is all about, however, I haven't shown you the man himself.

So, without any further ado, let me introduce you to the real ipotane, Marsyas. To the right is a picture from the Getty Collection of a remnant that also happens to be one of my all time favorite pieces of art.

He isn't big, less than 20", and the artist added horns which the real Marsyas didn't have, however, the man is very sexy as sin and I came to that conclusion long before I knew his sad tale.

Does Location Really Matter?

Absolutely! Location is the base of which the story becomes plausible. "Tied Up For Love" takes place in Ancient Greece.

A great deal of information is known about what life was like in Ancient Greece and the scenery is also fairly well established, which offers a good stable platform to write a story based in this period. The Mythological Messes Redux series is founded in giving mythological characters a second chance at a new ending and I think from the offer through to the outcome needs to be plausible.

The most difficult part in writing this series is when I need to take a known site and manipulate it enough to suit the story, without creating something that wouldn't be possible during that period. I did that in "Tied Up For Love" and found myself wishing it really existed. To the right is where I started.

I love a challenge! You'll have to check out the soon to be released "Tied Up For Love" [April 15] and see what happens to this hole in the rockface.

Thinking back to the four previous stories in the Mythological Messes Redux series, only one [Double Punch takes place largely in San Francisco] has a footing in contemporary times. Mount Olympus, various temples, residential dwellings, settings out amongst nature and a forge are where most of the important things take place in this series.

Ipotane - what's that?

Do you know anything about Centaurs? Satyrs? Yes, of course you do, but what about Ipotane? Ipotane? No? What if I told you they were the "original version of satyrs" and yet have more in common with centaurs? Confused? Not to worry, here's a simple break down of who is what:

Centuars are part human and part horse.
Satyrs are part human and part goat.
Ipotane are part human and part horse.

Just in case you're wondering, Fauns are not listed above because they're part of Roman Mythology, although time brought them into association with satyrs and the Greek god Pan, and I'm not even going to bring up the Silene issue.

Do you know what's up with LIP?

LIP is an acronym for Love's Immortal Pantheon anthology and the included stories offer an alternative mythology theme while based in the erotic romance subgrenre.

Love's Immortal Pantheon anthologies are published by Tease Publishing and they're about to release the 4th edition and I'm really excited. Not just because I'll be in this edition, neither is my going to Author's After Dark and being one of the hosts for the Mythos Masquerade, but because I love - yes, love - mythology, specifically myths from Ancient Greece.

Now, in the soon to be released "Tied Up For Love" [April 15], I chose a fairly minor mythical character to put under the spotlight. He's from one of the original creatures found in the myths, but has long been lost, as has his particular myth. It's a poignant offering and I thought the man deserved a second chance.

By the way, this is my third entry in the LIP anthologies, but the fifth book in my Mythological Messes Redux series, and each can be read in any order.

Kate: I get my information from everywhere; the world is my bison, by which I mean I make use of every bit of my life like the Lakota made use of every bit of the buffalo. Strange things collide and make stories. The wonderful writer Russell Hoban calls it, “being friends with your head.” You have to have an open playground up there. What makes me passionate is what animates every artist: there are things in my head that only I can see and I want to share them.

Kate: My favourite place to write is in a pub on the banks of the Thames. There is no city like London and no river like the Thames. When I can’t be there, any place will do. Give me a few minutes and a scrap of paper and I will be writing. Mostly I sit at my desk and write.

My book release

Hi all,
Okay, I've procrastinated long enough today. I was suppose to edit and do some writing. Instead I checked emails and watched television. Knowing I've got another book coming out with Tease in just a few days I figured I had better at least send you an excerpt. Its from my alter ego, Alexis Ke. Yes, she's done it again. This story was inspired by a dear friend of mine. One day we were playing adult truth or dare and I asked her where is the craziest place she'd ever done it. She told me in the post op holding area area at the hospital where we worked. Lordy have mercy. I was so shocked. Its always the quiet ones who shock you, right. Well, she met her husband at the hospital. He worked in the security department and she was one of the nursing supervisers. I can't give you her name cause she swore me to secrecy when I told her she gave me a book idea. And yes her face did pale when what I was saying sunk in. LOL. Fredrick Simms, head of security at City General leaned into the surveillance monitor and ran his fingers across the cold screen. The static prickled his fingers and the edges of a smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. Beads of sweat popped out on his neck and trickled down his back. Just like yesterday and the day before that, something about Lucia Waters always drew his attention. He welcomed the chance to work the night shift. When he did, he made it a point to be in the surveillance room at the beginning of Lucia’s shift, just so he could get a glimpse of her. Maybe it was the way she walked or the clothes she wore. Regardless of the hospital policy about skirt length and cleavage, she made it a point to show her legs almost every day.
He slid his tongue across his top lip, slow. Tonight her skirt stopped just above her knees. It sashayed with every sway of her hips, and her blouse dipped into her cleavage just right. If she shifted the wrong way or twisted her body he wondered if her bosoms would spill from her blouse. He wanted to be the one there to capture them if they did. When she moved, her ample bosom bounced with each step and her long curvaceous legs seemed to go on forever. God, he loved a woman with thick thighs and voluptuous breasts.
Closing his eyes, Fredrick envisioned them wrapped around his body, pulling him closer as hips rhythmically pumped, the length of his shaft embedded in her, deep. He licked his lips. His body shivered as the sudden tingling sensation entered his groin. Only in your dreams man, only in your dreams.
Most of his encounters with Lucia had been in passing. He met her almost a year ago. They’d talked, might even have laughed, he couldn’t remember exactly what had happened. He asked her out once. She said yes and then changed her answer to no, something about not getting involved with co-workers and hospital policy.
Hospital policy my ass. He watched her walk across the parking lot. A soft breeze caught her skirt and lifted it just enough to kiss and cool her heat. She scrambled to push it back down. Fredrick wished, just once, he was the wind, caressing her hot center, teasing her flesh.
Something’s got to give. He too was tired of the humdrum life, and too old to be playing games. He’d turned thirty-eight just over a month ago and it was time for a change. Relationships had failed him. Fredrick was tired of stuck-up girls pretending to be women mistaking his sensitivities for weaknesses and his good looks for confused sexuality. Soft spoken, but not soft, he refused to go another day without making this woman know he meant business. He wanted to knead his fingers into the flesh of her ass as his mouth suckled the large peaked nipples he knew she had to have. Damn, he wasn’t sure what he wanted when it came to Lucia Waters and the dreams she filled at night when he slept, if he slept. Yes. He wanted her.
He glanced at his watch, pushed back from the desk and walked toward the door of the security office. Fredrick knew her routine to a T. It took her precisely seven minutes to walk from the parking lot to the employee elevator. That is, if no one stopped her to talk. He even paid attention to when and how she made rounds, just so he could be in some of the same places at the same time that he knew she would be. Thinking about it, he could be classified as a stalker.
He shook his head, Nope, just a man in lust and afraid to say it. But, that was going to change and change soon.
The high tech hospital was a blessing with almost every aspect of its interior under surveillance. Only a few choice places were private. He knew where they were too and by morning, so would she. With one last glance at the screen, he pulled the door shut behind him and walked towards the service elevator.

The entry door to the elevator slid open as Fredrick turned the corner. His timing was right on the money. There she was, leaning against the side panel. God, she looked good. The sight of her made his heart leap into his throat. His groin muscles swelled against the fabric of his pants and pulsed with the blood coursing through his veins.
“Looks like you need some help.” Fredrick stepped into the elevator, his voice low and charismatic. He wished he could get into her head and find out what her thoughts were. Fredrick wondered what she thought about when she didn’t answer, but stared at him instead. “Are you here all night?”
“Oh, I’m sorry.” Lucia looked up into his eyes. “What did you say?”
“Asleep already and it’s not even midnight.” He awarded her with what he knew was one of his brilliant smiles.
Lucia shook her head. “Funny,” she murmured under her breath. “Real funny.”
Silence filled the space surrounding them and he watched her through veiled eyelids. What was she thinking about that caused her breathing to take on that slow sexy rhythm? Was she thinking about the weather? The job? Him?

Just wanting a whiff of the sexy man sharing her elevator, Lucia took a long deliberate breath. If she did it subtly enough, he wouldn’t notice. Her body recognized him the first day she saw him. Lucia couldn’t remember who started at the hospital first, but she knew each time she saw him all she wanted was to rip his clothes off and take him. It didn’t matter where, the hallway, the café, or the lobby. Shucks, Lucia would do him right here in the elevator if it didn’t mean instant termination once they were caught wrapped around each other with his cock imbedded deep in her dripping wet punany. She shivered inwardly and tried not to show what was going through her mind.
Lucia stared into space and inhaled another breath. Why did this man have to get on this elevator? Damn. She’d been hoping to avoid him tonight at all costs. He occupied her mind constantly, at home, in the shower, at work, even driving her car or shopping. On more than one occasion his imaginary hand replaced hers and took her to places she’d never been with other men. Well, at least he did in her dreams. Real life was another story. Damn him and her heart.
When Lucia saw him she felt her chest and inner thighs tighten. The butterflies fluttering in the pit of her stomach made her knees wobble. And why did he have to smell so good, a woodsy herbal scent that wouldn’t smell as delicious on any other man? It only complimented his cappuccino skin and his clean-shaven head.
As always, he was dressed neat in business casual: slacks, dress shirt, jacket and depending on the time of day, a tie. Lucia liked it best when he wore a jacket. It covered his beautiful tight ass and drew attention to his long legs and made her think of ways she could sneak her fingers under the back flap and cup those hardened globes.
Lucia squeezed her pelvic muscles tight and tried unsuccessfully to stave the feelings building between her thighs. She wanted to turn and speak to him, but her lips wouldn’t move. Every time she opened her mouth the only thing she could do was suck in much-needed air. Each breath she took was hot, just like her female center.
Why is he touching me, Lucia thought when she realized his long, smooth, strong fingers where running along the length of her arm.
“Excuse me, this is my floor.” Fredrick commented, as his hand stroked her skin again.
“I’m sorry.” Lucia stepped to the side so he could exit.
Leaning into her ear he whispered, “What ever that perfume is you’re wearing, it’s da’ bomb.” He stepped out, turned to the left and disappeared.
Lucia leaned out of the elevator and watched him move away, his stride long and powerful. She wondered if his legs could balance her in mid air or would he need to support her against the wall. The elevator doors slid shut and she was alone.
Had he meant what he said? Her knees shook and she fell against the wall of the elevator.
The elevator passed her floor before she had the strength to push herself from the wall and press the button that would get her to her office.

Kit Marlowe: Making Book Trailers

Like most writers, I worry about spending too much time promoting what I write rather than simply writing it. It's the central issue of 21st century publishing: now that the whole wide world can be in publishing, how can readers find the stories they actually want to read?

So we do blogs, webpages, guest slots, give things away, run contests, join Twitter and Facebook -- and now, we make book trailers. Well, some people pay to have them done which is good if 1) you have that kind of money and 2) they are actually good (ooh, have I seen some stinkers!). Most of us end up making our own with variable results (NB: I use iMovie to make mine).

I'll admit it: my first couple of trailers were not so good. Far too wordy, awkwardly connected, they are kind of painful to look at now (so, no – no links for you). Looking at movie trailers, I became more thoughtful about what a trailer needs to contain. Never mind that there seem to only be two companies that cut Hollywood trailers now: one that gives away the entire story and one that makes every movie look the same (I'm sorry that Don LaFontaine died, but the homogenization of trailer that began around his voice has continued.

But it turns out that what makes a trailer good is the same thing that makes a pitch good, especially that elusive "elevator pitch" that editors love. How to sum your story up in a short, pithy sound bite? Get the hook, find the tone, and give the essentials. First example: my trailer for The Mangrove Legacy.

The work I had already done for the back jacket copy provided the narrative hook for the trailer. The gorgeous cover by Stella provided some eye candy. The challenge was to provide enough information to let someone know what kind of book it was, yet still remained intriguing. The music by Chopin gives an ambiance of light-heartedness and helps situate the story in the past. I tried to convey the sense of humour integral to the book in the small amounts of text and used public domain images to break up the text.

I've practiced a few different approaches. Here's the general trailer for my works. The challenge here was a bit different and touches on the idea of "branding" which I know has been a hot topic here at Sia's too. I'd been quizzing folks at my blog on what they thought my brand was. Jokingly, I came up with "hard to spell, easy to read" which provided a kind of handhold for this trailer, which was really a showreel.

The basic task was the same: weave that message between pretty book covers with convincing pull quotes to suggest that readers really will like these books, despite the strange titles and widely varying genres. My pal Gerry Henkel supplied the Finnish kantele music, which highlights the theme of my collection Unikirja, inspired by Finnish myths and legends. My photos from Finland provided a palette of unusual images that I hoped would intrigue viewers.

I've also made a general book trailer for my pal C. Margery Kempe and one for her novel, Chastity Flame. I used royalty-free music for these trailers: many musicians are eager to have their music heard by new audiences and only ask that you link back to their sites (everybody needs promotion!). It's worth looking around for royalty-free images as well if you want to mix up the visuals and don't have art of your own.

Software makes the task a lot easier. You don't really have to be a filmmaker (although I used to make films: my blog is named after my first student film, Un Amor Peligroso or The Wombat's World), just look at some good movie trailers for models. Make trailers when you need to rest the writer part of your brain and do something else creative.

Do they help? Beats me. It’s one more tool for the PR effort, and who knows who might stumble across it on YouTube or BookBuzzr? They can be fun to do—but never forget that writing is job #1.

The fee won't break the bank and the environment is a friendly relaxed one - a great way to spend the weekend.

There are interesting panels to sit in on [i.e. How Did I Get Here? and Illustration from the Artists Point of View and I'll be sitting on Paranormal Romance amongst others] and a booksigning on Saturday. You'll find a gaming and dealers rooms, and more. Plenty to explore.

Isnt it adorable?! I love love love this one. I had to wait for AGES for them to get it back in stock and as soon as they did I bought one. The jacket is made of black cotton, and has three buckles on the back that are totally useable. I LOVE how the back of the jacket is long and has a train, and seriously looks bad ass.

Trey Brennan is in a fight for his life… and losing. His nephew sends up a hopeful prayer to the Warrior Goddess, Scáthach. When she responds, she is taken aback to see Trey in a hospital bed fighting against an illness that is ravaging his body. Trey awakens to find himself in another world with a beautiful goddess urging him to learn to fight. Can Scáthach teach Trey to fight well enough to win?

Praise to Ms. Nutt. This is one of the few short stories that feels complete. There is a clear and complete story line that leaves the reader satisfied. Scáthach is a take charge warrior that has no problem addressing a fight and Trey makes a worthy student. The love scene is sweet, well placed and adds to the romance of the whole story. The writing is fluid and fast paced. As a female reader, I loved that Trey was portrayed not as a barbarian but as a simple guy who must take up a weapon to save himself. For a short story I am still surprised and thrilled at how neatly the author presents a whole package. I will definitely be looking for more from Ms. Nutt.

Time for a new kind of hero!

My latest heroes aren't the traditional handsome alpha stud and yet they are in the eyes of the heroine.

Who could possibly be a new kind of hero?

Cyclopes!

They are monsters from Ancient Greek and yet they aren't really all that bad. They are the sons of Uranus [sky] and Gaia [earth] and were feared because they were so physically strong. Because they were so much stronger than their father, he chose to lock them in Tartarus so they couldn't help seize power from him. Unfortunately, while Cronus did take over and released them, he also sent them back to Tartarus because, like his father, he didn't want them to help seize power. Third time is a charm for the Cyclopes and Zeus rescued them. The proficiency the show in the forge was well respected and they made special items for immortals such as Hades [helmet of invisibility], Posiedon [trident] and Zeus [thunderbolts].

There are many Cyclopes, however, there are three brothers [Agres, Brontes and Steropes - my three heroes] who are very important men and yet they were never given a chance to explore their softer sides. Well, I changed that and gave them the opportunity to meet a woman who could do just that in "Hephaestus Lays Down the Law", and they've been with her ever since. However, even though they live together and appear happy, all is not roses in the relationship. The brothers have never felt such joy with a woman before and she is about to leave them unless they figure out how to keep her.

It's past time for Cyclopes to love and be loved and they're given the chance to do just that with "Cyra's Cyclopes", the fourth installment in the Mythological Messes Redux series.

You think you know all about Cyclopes by reading about them in Homer's Odyssey, but there is so much more to them than that one incident.

So, can a one eyed giant be a sexy and caring lover? Absolutely! Can three? Phrew, that's a red hot yes! Pick up a copy of "Cyra's Cyclopes" and enjoy the trio finding their way through new territory.

Are you Spring Cleaning? I am!

I have been reading all of the articles about organizing and cleaning up our lives, closets, and everything else. I found a lot of good information, but I know I will not be able to do it all.
Therefore I decided to look around my house and comit to one thing I can do right now.
I just moved to California. Thanks to the move, all of my lotions, smell good soaps, sprays, etc. are all in one place. I had no idea I had so much lotion. I know I will need it since the temperatures get high here and it is a dry climate. The lotion will be good for me.
However, I don't need to buy any more lotion until this lotion is gone.
What I have done is brought all of the lotion out to where I can see it. Some are on a shelf next to the shower, some are on the counter next to the sink. They take up space, but they also remind me every day that I need to put lotion on, and I do not need to buy any until I am down to 2 or 3 main scents.
I know this may seem crazy but when I add up the price tag for all of those lotion bottles picked up here and there the money adds up. I could have used that money for other things.

Especially now that I am not working full time. I take that back, I am working full time, but not getting paid for working full time. I am adjusting and trying to scale back. It has really helped me to open my eyes to how I stocked up on some of the strangest things.

Lotion, soap, dental floss, and disposable razors are some of the things I realize I had spread throughout my house in differnt bathrooms, cabinets, etc in North Carolina. My goal is to use what I have before buying more. I will also set up a guest room basket (I did have those in my NC home)full of toiletries just in case someone comes to visit and forgets something.

Is anyone else spring cleaning? If so, what stockpile did you come across?
What are your plans for it?

I have been getting questions about the Masquerade and such, and I have decided, since I wont have much to blog about by way of books for a while, Ill give you guys some pointers on places to get AMAZING clothes at super prices not only for AAD and for costuming, but for any time your at a convention. Today Is going to be Costume style cuteness!

Gal Friday! Yes that's what I think of when I see this dress! its cotton and just enough spandex to hold everything in and in the right places. Yes its very vintage 50's and even a bit pinup rockabilly, But it could be something you would wear to be ANY of the gals in Noir. You can get this HERE.

They have it in the red and black, and black and white. Perfect dress for someone that is looking to sit at our Noir table! How about being a goddess? We got one for that too. Its a double duty dress, as it can be used for a costume (just dress it up with some jewelry) and you can wear it for a night out too. I love the color (Also comes in Black) and it gives you a lot of choices on what you can do with the dress by way of looks because its so basic. This one is polyester and spandex. It is completely floor length, so when you walk with it, you will glide. Perfect dress for someone that chooses to sit at our myths and gods table! You can buy it HERE.

Gratefully, the limo slowed then stopped, the door popping open in front of the club doors.

“Awright!” He smiled at Avery’s eagerness. “I love this kind of service.”

“You love any kind of service,” Kaitlyn shot back winding an arm through one of Travis’s once all three stood on the walk. Avery did the same.

Avery looked up at Travis through thick lashes, her brown eyes glimmering in the neon. “I love being serviced,” she purred, her lips moving with a sheen that made him want to reach down and devour. Then the meaning of her words hit him. Shit!

Travis managed to swallow the gulped exclamation. He focused ahead. “Ladies,” he encouraged, getting them through the doors before he tossed them back in the limo and stripped them both.

Avery lifted a hand, pointing out a perfect table through the darkened interior. Multi-colored lights glinted off of walls and furniture, sparking like indoor fireworks. The club was busy but hadn’t quite reached packed yet. It wouldn’t take long on a Saturday night.

“What do you desire?” he asked, immediately shaking his head at his own choice of words. He usually wasn’t the king of lost blatant opportunities. He followed Avery, sliding onto the leather and chrome shadowed booth, with the girls flanking him. Two hot and sizzling glances destroyed his efforts in the limo. He was hotter and harder than a steel rod laying in coals under his jeans zipper. Avery teased her lip with a flickering tongue and he did groan, glad the thumping music hid it. This was going to be a night of torture. He just didn’t know if he was going to love it or hate it yet.

Travis waved over one of the drink waitresses through the growing throng, giving their order than wrapped his arms around the girls again, fighting like hell to relax, or at the least, fake being nonchalant. After the drinks arrived, he asked them, “Dancing later?”

Avery nodded and Kaitlyn smiled in agreement, pulling the straw from her drink to slide into her lush mouth, wrapping her tongue around it, letting it disappear back and forth with slow momentum. He blinked.

Okay, now that was pretty clear, he thought. He swore he’d been imagining the teasing looks, the way lingering fingertips had caressed him on the drive to the club, blaming it all to a much too active imagination and a lust for these two that went way off the charts. Then he jerked up straight. While he’d been enthralled watching Kaitlyn working the straw like a wet dream pro, Avery’s hand had slid into dangerous territory, rolling over the bulge in his jeans.

He sucked in air, then fighting the shudders rocking his chest grabbed his beer and slammed half of it in three gulps.

Fuckin’ A, he wanted these two. Glancing at one then the other, he caught the heat in their eyes watching him, trading sultry promising looks and wicked little grins back and forth between themselves and slowly the light bulb began to glow. Two women, into each other, who both wanted him. And shit, did he want them. He’d craved them practically since the minute they’d jogged up to him and started talking to him with their tight little shorts and sweat-drenched tops.

The shudder that rolled down his body telegraphed to both of his dates. “Ooh shit,” he breathed. He closed his eyes swallowing hard, praying harder, praying like never before that he was right and if he was, ready to thank any god responsible. “Both of you?” They nodded, not even pretending to not understand.

“But let’s have fun tonight,” Avery drawled, lowering her lashes as her hand cradled his cock, her fingers slipping south to form completely around his shape, massaging lightly. “The night is young.”

“God,” he groaned. “You’re both sexier than hell.” The words fell out in a growl because Kaitlyn’s hand had also disappeared under the table. It began a slow meander up his abdomen, fluttering as if unable to decide its destination.

“It’s called che-mis-try,” Kaitlyn teased throatily, sending more sparks down his spine. “You are one hot thing too.”

Prologue

The soft swish of the door opening told Eros he was no longer alone. Drawing in a deep breath and letting it out loudly, he let his annoyance be clearly heard by whoever had disturbed him.

“Sigh all you want, Eros, but I’m not leaving. You’ve kept your own council to the exclusion of all others for far too long already.”

In no mood to be social, Eros didn’t bother to turn to face his friend. “I simply find my own council superior to that of any other. That’s all, Erato. Now, if you’ll excuse me…”

“Sorry, but no.” Erato moved further into the room and sat in the chair directly in front of Eros’ chaise, thereby blocking his view of the hills beyond his window. This was the vista he’d spent he didn’t know how many hours staring at of late.

Another sigh emanated from the deep sorrow within him.

“If you insist on being here, at least make yourself useful.” Eros thrust his empty cup forward. When Erato made no move, Eros nodded toward the flagon of wine on the table between them. “Pour one for yourself as well, my friend. It’s from Dionysus. Ever since I ‘befriended’ his maenads they’ve been most generous with his private stock. It does incredible things to a body.”

Erato raised a brow. “I know exactly what Dionysus’ private stock can do, thank you. I’ll pass.”

“Suit yourself.” Eros shrugged. He rose and splashed the deep claret liquid into his cup since it had become more than obvious that Erato wasn’t going to. “Though I must warn you that after drinking a bit more of this, I’ll most likely be summoning a few of the serving girls. Given that you don’t partake of orgies any longer since you’ve found your one true love in Acantha, you would do best to leave.”

“I’m not leaving and you’re not drinking any more of that.” Erato rose and grabbed the cup from his hand, sending scattered droplets into the air.

Brushing spilt wine from his hand, Eros frowned. “Why, my friend, would you take your life in your hands and do something so foolish?”

“I’m the only true friend you have. You’d never harm me, and you know it.” Erato scowled, and after placing the cup on a table out of Eros’ reach, sat again.

“Don’t be so sure.” For the first time since the unwelcome intrusion, Eros noticed Erato held a bound ream of paper in his hand. “Is there a purpose to your visit? Or are you here simply to annoy me?”

“Oh, there is a purpose.”

The book in Erato’s hand landed heavily on the end of Eros’ chaise. He barely gave it a glance, instead focusing on Erato. “You are the man of words, oh great muse of poetry. Not I.”

“Read it, Eros.”

He snorted in disgust. “I don’t read.”

Shaking his head, Erato grabbed the item back. “Then I shall read it to you.”

Couldn’t a man be left to wallow in sorrow and loneliness in peace? Eros leaned his head back and closed his eyes. “If you must. Forgive me if I take a nap while you do. I’m suddenly very weary.”

He heard Erato rifling through the pages. The man was actually going to read to him. What lunacy had gotten into his friend? Against his wishes, Eros found himself suddenly curious.

Erato cleared his throat. “My name is not important, but the story I tell is—“

“Not exactly Shakespeare, is it?” Eros cracked open one eye. “Why am I being forced to listen to this?”

“You’ll see.” Erato turned his gaze back to the age-yellowed parchment he held. “I am an old woman now. I feel my death upon me. Almost all whom I know and care for are dead. That is the reason I dare defy the gods and tell the truth which has never been told before. Not another living mortal knows what I do, until now. My tale begins in my youth, when I was a girl of seventeen—”

Eros sighed loudly. “Wonderful. How old is she at the time of the writing? How many years worth of this drivel must I suffer through the telling of?”

Ignoring him completely, Erato continued with the reading. “—working in the palace of the King and Queen of Miletis as a handmaiden caring for their three daughters, Bliss, Adelfa and Psyche—“

His attention captured now, Eros sat up, eyes wide open, his heart pounding. “Where did you find these writings?”

“In Sicily. I was conducting an inventory of the contents of the palace library. I found this hidden behind the books. It appears to have been there for quite some time.”

He eyed the book that most likely held the truth he’d long ago seen buried. The past he’d hoped would stay buried. The memories of which snuck up on him a few times a century and kept him secluded and morose until he could force back the darkness with enough wine and women. “Have you read it?”

“Oh, yes. Every word and I must say for the first time in our long friendship I actually feel as if I understand you, Eros. Now I see why the god of love hates love so passionately.”

New Year Resolutions

This year I have given a great deal of thought to my resolutions. I normally do not make them. This year I think posting them will be good motivation for keeping them. I mean I will have to answer for the ones I do not practice or successfully maintain.
So here is my list:
1. Report back each month of 2010 on how well I am doing with the New Year Resolutions.
2. Don't forget to mail or e-mail birthday cards, etc. to people this year. ( I am notorious for mailing things a month or two late!)
3. Blog once a week.
4. Stick to the 156 grams of carbs per day doctor ordered diet 5 out of 7 days of the week. (I am a cookie monster so I will do my best and restaurants do not always care about my carb restriction!)
5. Learn how to cook!! I really think this will help in my diet planning. LOL
6. Do 30-60 minutes of exercise 5-7 days a week.
7. Write for an hour every single day. (This was a habit I had once upon a time that allowed me to keep focused on my books and get through them. I have five works in progress that I have been avoiding due to "time" issues. I need to make time for this.)
8. Train Jonah, my Beagle, to do more than just "sit" when commanded for a treat.
9. Train Ms. Brittany, my Cocker Spaniel, to do at least two more tricks.
10. Create a list of 40 things to do before I am 40 and start working on it!
11. Put out a Cara North newsletter at least every quarter or more frequently if interesting things come up.
12. Start submitting work to other publishers. Some places I am going to sub to this year include:
Kensington, Harlequin, LooseId, Samhain, Ellora's Cave, Avon, and you may not expect it but I hope to run into some people from DC and Dark Horse Comics because I would like to write for them also.
13. Get some work published in magazines, newspapers, and on other blogs. I want to open my world to the writing universe and see what all I can get in to and what I would like to continue doing. I need to build my portfolio as an author.
14. Volunteer. When we get to California, I want to find a volunteer opportunity.
15. Drink 64 ounces of water each day.

Well that is it, my 15 resolutions this year. What do you think? What have you resolved to do?

Excerpt:

Laura struggled through the dark and burst through a great light. She gasped for breath and it filled her. Warmth spread through her every part, then a surge of energy she didn’t understand. Her heart beat. Differently. Odd. Different from any feeling she’d ever had. Her eyelashes fluttered and then in the dim light of a strange windowless room, she saw a man’s face.

His dark, curly hair framed his chiseled features. What struck her most were his dark, fathomless eyes. I can get lost in those eyes and never want to leave.

He smiled.

She flushed. I hope he can’t hear what I’m thinking.

I can.

She sat up, smiling with embarrassment. “You pulled me out of the river?”

“Yes.”

“Thank you.” Laura trembled. “I don’t understand. I was dying.”

“You were very badly injured in the fall. I was going to take you to the hospital, but you said, ‘No hospital.’ That you’d keep trying to kill yourself.” His jaw tightened. “I couldn’t bear the idea of your death. Please, forgive me, but I couldn’t let you die.” He gazed deeply into her eyes.

Laura moved her tongue inside her mouth and came across the fangs.

“Oh, my God!” She tried to sit up, but he pushed her gently down.

“Don’t get up just yet. You’re still healing.”

“You made me a vampire?” Every tale she’d heard as a child in New Orleans rushed back to her. Vampires were monsters. “Now I’m a monster!” Anger flushed through her. How dare he make her this! He had no right. She seethed.

“No. You are not a monster. Neither am I. I gave you a life. It’s your choice how you live it.”

Then another emotion unexpectedly filled her, when she gazed up into his eyes. I couldn’t bear the idea of your death. His tender words echoed in her entire being and soothed her broken heart, as if he’d kissed her lips without touching her. She looked at him with wonder, reached up and caressed the young beard on his chin. He smiled and she could see his fangs now. Strangely, she wasn’t frightened.

“We must do the last part.” He bit into his arm just inside the elbow and put it against her mouth.

“No.” She pushed his arm away.

“You need it to stop the hunger from possessing you. Just close your eyes and drink.”

The blood oozed into her mouth, as he pressed his arm against her lips. At first, she choked and sputtered but then finally accepted it. Laura tried not to think about what it really was. The warmth reminded her of ginger tea with a citrus tang.

“Since I am your sire, my blood will give you a balanced mind. You will not need to feed again until tonight.”

After a few more minutes, she pushed him away. The wound on his arm healed before her eyes. Wide-eyed, she smiled. “I feel so strong and well. I don’t ache or hurt anywhere.” Then his reference to being her sire struck her. “So you own me now!” Her anger flared again along with her strength. She slapped him.

“What was that for?” He held his hand to his cheek.

“Oh, I don’t know. You made me a vampire and now you own me. Take your pick.”

David gazed upward. “This isn’t going well.”

“Who are you talking to?”

“God.”

Laura scoffed. “A vampire talks to God? Does God answer you?”

David frowned at her and sighed. ”God apparently has one hell of a sense of humor.”

“What does that mean?”

“Never mind. Let’s get back to the subject at hand. No, I do not own you. I have no claim on you whatsoever. You are free to decide where you want to be and with whom. I’ll help you get started, that’s all.” With every word, he seemed more uncomfortable. “We do have a blood tie though, so if you ever need my help, just think of me and I’ll come. I’ll find you.”

Her anger dissipated. Laura enjoyed seeing him vulnerable. And he didn’t hit her back. She smiled. “I don’t know your name.”

“I’m David Hilliard.”

This time she gently touched his face. “I’m Laura Cordelais.”

He held her hand to his cheek and closed his eyes.

Laura gasped as she realized her surroundings. “Do you live here?”

“No.” He chuckled. “I just needed to get you out of the sun. I have an apartment.”

“Well, that’s a relief. I thought I’d have to live in a cemetery.”

They both laughed.

Laura looked around at the grim tomb. A spider crawled up the stone wall nearest her, and she trembled. “I’m afraid of small, closed spaces. And bugs.”

He enclosed her in his arms. “Don’t be afraid. As soon as it’s dark, we’ll leave.”

Her mouth was so close to his, she could almost taste him. Then he pressed his firm lips against hers.

Hmm. He tastes of honey. I love honey.

Their fangs knocked together. Laura giggled nervously.

“Shall we try that again?” he suggested.

She nodded.

David gently took her chin and tilted her head slightly. Then his lips possessed hers again. Laura tingled from head to toe and wondered if a vampire was capable of love. She hoped David was.

When their lips parted, Laura frowned.

“I’m still angry with you.”

“Really? You don’t sound that angry.”

“I’m furious with you. I mean you made me a vampire.”

“Are you furious?” He carefully pushed a hair off her face and kissed her forehead.

“Now that’s not fair. Are you using your hypnotic powers on me?”

“No. I want everything between us to be real.” He kissed her left temple and moved down her jaw line. His mouth caressed her lips. His tongue rubbed her fangs.

“Whoa.” Rubbing her fangs stirred a passion so hot, it was hard to ignore. Still. He had just made her a vampire. All his distractions were making her forget that. She should be angry with him, but his kiss stirred up a frenzy of desire.

“So far, your family is not boring. I doubt you are,” he told her honestly. “I know you are not boring,” he clarified quietly. Hi Everyone,

I'm Susan Hanniford Crowley. I'm very excited about being with Tease Publishing LLC. My first paranormal romance ebook WHEN LOVE SURVIVES is currently in edits. I'm a cross over author from the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America. Over two years ago, I was at the Nebula Awards Weekend in Manhattan and a friend said to me, "Honey, I've read your stuff. You're really a romance author." So I started reading romance--paranormal romance especially and fell head over heels in love. Then I started writing romance and discovered a new world I couldn't get enough of.

I am nearing the end of my project to send to a NY publisher. I was not completely finished when I sent the query and unfortunately what I thought would take me a couple of days to finish and a couple of months to hear if they wanted to look at has happened in the opposite order!Once I get this manuscript out to NY I can finish up my Veronica Grimm story and get it in for editing. I am really excited about it, the book has been a long time planning and finally having time to dedicate to writing it has also been a great gift.Except time is something I am struggling with. If you read my non-fiction blog, In Darkness and Light, you know that life is really trying to keep my attention scattered to the winds right now. But I am going to keep my anchor in writing. Gillian grabbed her head as she came out of her drugged-like sleep. The veins at her temples pounded in time with her heartbeat. She forced her eyes open and stared at the ceiling. For a moment, she couldn’t understand why the ceiling didn’t resemble the smooth plaster one in her bedroom, or why she felt like she was swaying back and forth, when she knew she hadn’t moved. Turning her head to the right of her, her vision latched onto a hairy arm dangling over, what she assumed was the edge of her bed. Why was Jerry in her bed and why was she lying on the floor? She frowned. Hadn’t she broken up with Jerry? For one awful, horrible moment, she thought maybe she had really gone through with the wedding after all. She rubbed her eyes as her muddled thoughts began to organize. Then she remembered: Her conversation with Samantha, the Queen Mary, and then the vanishing mutt. “I passed out. I dreamt the dog led me …” It was a dream, wasn’t it? Where was she? She sat up abruptly, more confused than ever. Again, she felt the swaying. If she didn’t know better, she’d think the ship was afloat, but that was impossible since the Queen Mary lacked the capability of going out to sea.

The person on the bed stirred, bringing her attention back to him. She crawled to her feet. She looked down at the man's face, which was turned toward her in slumber. Gillian swallowed with some difficulty as her gaze locked onto the most gorgeous man she had ever seen. He had jet-black hair, a strong chiseled face with a slight cleft in his chin. He looked like he hadn’t shaved for a few days, making him look a little scruffy, but this did nothing to sway her opinion. Her eyes took in the rest of him. Long limbed, his feet hung over the edge of the bed. He wore faded red colored … she supposed they were long johns. She frowned. Strange attire, but she had to say he filled them out rather nicely. But, who was he? How in the world did she end up in a room with him? She didn’t condone casual flings. She glanced down at herself relieved she still wore what she had on last night. Perhaps this meant nothing happened. Maybe they were simply two fools who had too much to drink. She scratched her head. She only remembered the one cocktail. And where was Samantha?

She needed to go back to her room and now, before the guy woke up. She had no intentions of making this awkward situation even worse.

She grabbed her purse off the floor and tiptoed toward the door. She glanced back to see if the man stirred. She tripped and cursed as she stumbled and fell to the floor with a thud. At the same moment, she felt something whiz by her ear, slamming into the door above her head. She slid her gaze up, her eyes widened in alarm when she saw the end of a knife sticking out of the wood. The gorgeous man had tried to kill her! She whipped around to see him jump out of the bed. She picked up the boot she had tripped over and threw it. A perfect shot, the boot slammed into the side of his head. She scrambled to her feet and lunged for the door. The doorknob didn’t budge. It appeared to be locked from the inside and she needed a key to open it.

This couldn’t be happening.

She whirled around to face her attacker, praying the boot had somehow miraculously knocked him out. Her shoulders sagged when she found him standing there. His shockingly blue eyes narrowed, pinning her down. She swallowed the lump in the back of her throat.

Zachary’s mouth dropped open and he stared at the woman before him. If it hadn’t been for the boot slamming against his skull, he might have thought he dreamt up this alluringly beautiful image before him. Her hair was long and deep auburn, almost the color of autumn leaves with all its gold, brown, and orange blending to perfection. She had it pulled high above her head with some kind of bow that constricted it from falling down. His gaze lingered over her face, mesmerized by her clear sun-kissed skin with just a hint of freckles sprinkled across her nose. Features of an angel, but her attire would tempt a saint to do wicked things. His eyes rested on her dark garment, which hugged her in all the right places. He felt his body respond to every luscious curve revealed to him.

Where did this intriguing woman come from and how did she happen to be in his room? He’d locked the door before he went to bed last night, and he must still have the key in his possession, or else the woman would have fled by now. “Who are you?”

“Who am I?” she sputtered. “Who are you?”

She was a defiant little chit. Under other circumstances he would have admired her spunk. He crossed his arms against his chest. “Since this is my room and I hold the key to your freedom, I suggest—”

The woman let out a deafening scream and charged toward him. “Hell and damnation.” Before he could react, she grabbed his arm and flipped him, slamming him to the floor in one fluid move. His six foot, one hundred and eighty pound frame lay there like a rag doll. He stared up at the ceiling with what he knew could only be a stunned expression plastered to his face. How in the world did this little slip of a woman flip him over her shoulder?

“It really worked! The self-defense class really paid off.” The woman spoke, her voice laced with amazement over her accomplishment.

He rolled his head toward her. “Who are you?”

The loud gong of the doorbell sounded. His treadmill workout unimpeded, Aeolus scanned the weather and satellite reports displayed on three giant screens. That bastard El Niño was kicking his ass over in the Pacific again, and his vigilance was required.

Several minutes later, his steward entered the console room, followed by a third party. “Signore,” the elder gentleman addressed Aeolus in Italian, “the goddess Hera to see you.”

Aeolus halted mid step, nearly tripping as the tread carried his foot back. He turned off the machine and stepped to the floor. Shaking the damp from his curls, he grabbed a towel from where it hung on the nearby weight rack. He wiped the sweat from his smoothly-shaved face, his features permanently chiseled in the guise of a man in his late twenties. His face dry, he twisted the towel behind his neck and draped his biceps.

“Hera,” he greeted with both surprise and suspicion. “It’s been what, a few millennia since your last visit? To what do I owe this honor?”

Wistfully, his eyes roamed her form. At six feet tall, and in stiletto heels at that, the statuesque Hera drew eye level with him. In modern fashion, her chocolate tresses cascaded freely down her back. The last time he’d seen her, she’d worn her lovely mane woven in a diadem. Gone was her toga, replaced with a sassy Chanel suit in silk and leather. And while he’d once found her golden sandals to be alluring, those heels certainly suited her better. As he took her hands, he inhaled her intoxicating scent. Pressed against her, he found himself pondering how long it had been since he’d enjoyed the charms of the fairer sex.

Hera smiled knowingly as she kissed him on one cheek, then the other. “When I made you immortal, I offered you any mate of your choosing, even my fairest nymph, Deiopea, but you refused.”

“I would not wish this seclusion on any woman unless she chose it,” Aeolus reminded her.

“Are you still moping?” Hera sighed with a quick roll of her eyes and a slight twist of her lips. Still holding his hands, she stepped back and surveyed the room with a hint of disapproval. “It’s a wonder you don’t sleep in here.”

Aeolus smiled. “At times, I do.” With a flourish, he kissed the back of her hand, knowing the neglected wife of gallivant Zeus found the attention flattering. “And I am ever grateful for your gift and honored by the responsibility with which the gods have entrusted me. But my obligation lends little in the way of a social life, and yes, at times, I am lonely.”

Hera batted her eyes. “You could host parties like we do each year on Arcadia. You have what mortals consider prime location here. Why, you’d be the rage of the scandal sheets!”

“After that fiasco with Odysseus and his crew, I’ve been reluctant to play host to guests again.”

“You’re still upset about that?” teased Hera.

“Considering it went down in the books? Yes.”

It was more than that, however. The fact was, every few centuries, the human-born immortal suffered a crisis as he stared at his reflection and fathomed, all over again, that he would never age—his skin would never wrinkle, his hair never thin or gray, and his bones never grow brittle. With this realization, the same staggering truth never ceased to amaze Aeolus. He would never die.

If that weren’t enough to keep his mind teetering on the brink of madness, his custodianship over the Anemoi proved a most taxing chore. While he loved his four charges, his duty toward them kept him secluded to the Aeolians, his grand palace atop his island more a fortress than a home. True, the recent advent of television, radio, and computers kept him more in touch with the outside world. And between NASA, NOAA, and The Weather Channel, his job had certainly eased in recent decades. Yet at times, the enormity of his situation still weighed heavily on him.

Aeolus offered Hera a seat, then took his place in his leather executive chair at the main terminal. The steward poured and served coffee, then took leave with a quick bow and a crisp turn of the heel.

Hera blew lightly at her cup and took a dainty sip, her littlest manicured finger extended. “I came here regarding our annual gathering at Arcadia, actually. It seems a complication has arisen."

“Oh?” He blew carefully on his own drink—very carefully, as he held the power of the wind in his lungs.

She had noticed the threatening storm clouds when she started out this afternoon. “Oh, but you had to ignore them,” she sarcastically spit out not caring in the least that she was talking to herself. “You had to walk along the cliffs as if you’ve never seen the ocean before today. Soaked to the skin, you are and looking like an eegit for the effort.” She knew her dark strands were plastered to her head and her makeup all but washed away. It was good thing she hadn’t put on mascara this morning or she’d have streaks of black running down her face.

She hurried up the porch steps and to some remnant of cover. She needed to collect the firewood and light the fireplace or the house wouldn’t be warm tonight. She wished her husband would hurry home. “I miss you, Liam.” He had been called away on business and she didn’t expect him home until the end of the week. She sighed. “Ah Liam, a welcoming hug and your warm lips on mine, is what I be needing this night.” Instead, she had her sister, Tara for company. She loved her sister and they would probably talk into the wee hours of the night, but it wasn’t the same as having her husband there to keep her warm. She liked to snuggle near the fire with him on nights like this. They would sip hot chocolate with marshmallows as they talked about their dreams for the future.

She glanced up as the lightning shot across the sky. She hoped she wouldn’t lose electricity as they had the many times before with lesser storms. She shook some of the water off of her and walked over to the front door. Her hands were frozen and she fumbled with the key, only to realize the door stood slightly ajar. Brona hesitated at the threshold, listening, but the only sound she heard was the bawling winds and the rumble of thunder behind her.

Her sister, Tara was napping when she left the house. That’s why she had taken her keys to lock the door. Her brows furrowed. Did I forget to lock it in my haste to be near the sea? It wouldn’t surprise her if she had. How many times had Liam come home to find the door unlocked and she nowhere to be found?

Their rugged house stood hidden in a lush forest near the edge of a cliff. From the porch they could see the ocean meet the horizon, an endless view of blue and green water. A hike down the cliff brought them to a private beach with areas she had yet to explore. She sighed. On a clear night the sunsets were breathtaking. She loved that they lived far off the beaten path. They didn’t have much traffic up here, but Liam was from the city and insisted that locks were placed. She looked at the open door. Now he had her paranoid that someone had broken in while she’d been gone. “Don’t be silly. I forgot to lock the door is all there is to it.”

“Tara,” she called as she entered the house. She flipped on the living room light. “Tara, I’m back and cold to the bone.” Her chuckle died in her throat. A confusing rush of anticipation and dread whirled inside of her. Why wasn’t her sister answering? No sounds came from within as if she entered a tomb. Goose flesh moved up her spine, making her shiver.

Lightning crackled in the sky and thunder shook the windows, causing Brona to jump. She whirled around to shut and locked the door behind her. She headed for the stairs with a thought: What if she had locked the intruder in with her? She stood at the bottom of the stairs and looked up at the inky blackness waiting for her.

She had to go up there. She had to make sure Tara was okay.

She’d only taken a step when a guttural cry of terror rose above the storm’s violence.

Did ayone watch "In Living Color" back in the 80's. I feel like the family that had multiple jobs and they never got to rest. I have so many jobs man! I am not complaining becasue I am grateful for each of them, especially in today's economy. But man am I beat!I know I would have more energy if I dod some exercise but I don;t know when I will have time to do that. I work 8 hours at the college, I have an online class I teach, I have books to write, I have books to format for Tease, I have homework for my own classes and I love weekends becasue I get a chance to catch up- mostly. I feel like I am not giving anything 100% but that somehow I can manage. I just need a schedule. Plan the work- work the plan. Anyone else out there feeling overwhelemed lately?

One Hot Momma is finally out in e-book. I hope not to take too long for print but there are books ahead of me so buy a lot of Tease books so they can print more and get to mine!

It was at that moment he knew she wasn’t ill, with her chest rising and falling with ragged gasps.
Her breath was a hot brand against the hand holding her chin. “Bram,” she whispered, a plea of

Valentine’s day is a holiday celebrated on February 14th. It is a day where lovers express their love for each other by sending love notes, the giving of flowers or offering luscious chocolates. (I prefer chocolates.) It’s a day of Romance.

Romance is the theme of this contest.

To be entered in the drawing, post on my blog about a memorable first kiss. It doesn’t have to be perfect or wonderful. Tell me about the quick innocent kiss or the messy awkward kiss that was misplaced. Your name will automatically be entered into the hat.

“A surprise? For me? Really? How exciting!” Aphrodite clapped her hands and started dancing with excitement.

“Of course it’s for you. I enjoy making things that make you smile.” While it was easy to turn his wife’s head with baubles and pretty trinkets, the one he was leading her to was going to be pleasurable for both of them. Hopefully it would eventually lead to her proclaiming her heart in his favor. He may be an eternal optimist, but didn’t care if there was a chance it was true.

“You’re so creative. Everything you’ve made for me is simply divine.”

“Thank you. That’s very thoughtful of you to say, especially since you can’t stand to sit near me after I’ve spent a great deal of time crafting your gift with my own hands.”

“Yes, well…”

“It’s all right, darling. I know I’m not pretty or perfect to look at, but don’t make the mistake of misjudging me. I can still bring you multiple orgasms and make you scream out with passion. Not bad for a lame beast.”

“Stop it! I hate it when you put yourself down or let others go unpunished for doing it. I happen to think you’re sweet, creative, and very handsome.”

“Really?” The conviction behind her claim surprised him. Of course he knew she found him appealing, or at least enough to have sex with him, but he still had to wonder if it was his appearance that caused her to turn to others.

“Yes, really. One of the reasons I married you was your ability to turn me inside out with a single look from those golden eyes.”

“Then why, if I turn you on, do you go to others for sex?”

“I don’t know. It doesn’t matter anyway, because I always come back to you.” Her answer was flippant and didn’t answer the question. Hephaestus knew it couldn’t have been settled that quickly, so continued.

“But it matters to me, Phria.” They walked into their private quarters and Hephaestus turned to watch her face as she found an elaborate and fussy throne he’d made just for her. Of course he’d added a few special things just for him, but that was for later.

“Ooo, Heph, it is incredible!” He was entranced by her delicate hands stroking over various shells, pieces of coral, and other treasures from the sea he’d used to decorate the chair. He could almost believe it was his body she was touching.

“Have a seat, check it out firsthand, and see how it suits you.” Aphrodite settled her delightful backside onto the blue cushion. She squirmed around a bit, as if she couldn’t find any comfort.

“Everything all right?”

“Not quite.”

“Well that isn’t good. Maybe your toga is getting bunched up. Why don’t you take it off and try the throne naked.” The silky sheer sheath, gathered at one shoulder, floated to the ground, and with a flick from her fingers pooled around her feet. His next breath stuck in his throat, she was simply stunning.

Her beautiful curves tempted him to run his hands over them all and treasure their sensuous feel. Plump pink lips tempted his own to kiss them, full breasts with hard red tips made his fingers twitch with a need to touch them, and the pussy she kept bare taunted him to fill it with his hard cock. However, before he did that, there were words of love and devotion he needed to hear first.

Love’s Immortal Pantheon : ERATO

“So, as I was saying my lovely Erato, your familiarity with the mortals is what makes you perfect for this assignment, and though I am loathe to part with you for even a short time, I must, for you are the best suited for the task at hand.”

Erato cleared the frog from his throat and steeled his nerves. “If I may, my perfect goddess, what is this task of which you speak?”

Aphrodite ran one nail down Eros’ sculpted arm. “Tell him, my golden one.”

Eros shot Erato another grin full of mischief. “It’s simple, my friend. You go down below, locate one particular female, and let her fall in love with you.”

Erato frowned. It sounded simple enough, deceptively so. Mortals were extremely susceptible to those who resided on Mt. Olympus, which was one reason why once a mortal entered the palace of the gods, they never willingly left.

One look into his eyes and the female would be his. One night in his bed and she would never want to part with him. But still, why him? “And why have I been chosen…specifically?”

Aphrodite looked proud of herself as she explained. “It may be required that you live among the mortals for some time. Mortal time, of course, is nothing for one of us, but still, any of the others would stand out among the commoners. You, however, with your strange preoccupation with those living below, will know how to blend in.”

Aphrodite thought he and he alone could blend in with the commoners? Erato wasn’t sure whether to take that as a compliment or an insult. So he collected mortal literature. He was the Muse of Poetry, for Zeus’ sake. It was his job to be familiar with mortal writers.

Compliment or not, Erato said, “Thank you, goddess. And will Eros assist me with one of his arrows and his ever true aim to make the female fall in love with me?”

Now Eros’ involvement in the plan made more sense, since love was the goal. All that needed to be done was for Eros to shoot the female with one of his golden tipped arrows and she would be irretrievably in love with whomever she saw next.

“My arrow will not be necessary, my friend. She will fall in love with you as certainly as the sun rises and sets. What female could ever resist you? But I will be nearby. Do not fear.” Eros treated Erato to his cherubic smirk once more.

Erato nodded, not sure he was relieved by Eros’ assurance. “All right. When am I to leave?”
Aphrodite smiled. “Immediately, but treat me to one last kiss, Erato, before I lose you to the mortals.”

Erato rose at Aphrodite’s command, in more ways than one, and touched his lips to hers. Her mouth tasted of the sea and the familiar tang caused a tide of memories of all they’d shared to flood his mind. A moan of pure desire rose from Erato’s chest and he had to stop himself from pressing his body against hers, a presumption that would surely earn him more pain than pleasure.

The chamber around him began to swirl into an indecipherable tangle of sensations. Erato still smelled the scent of rosemary oil lingering in the room, his body still ached with wanting what pleasures it knew the goddess could provide, he still tasted the salty sea in her mouth, but things were no longer clear…Dizzy and barely able to think, Erato heard Eros giggle and then everything went blank.
